Could the Réunion plume have thinned the Indian craton?

چکیده

Abstract Thick and highly viscous roots are the key to cratonic survival. Nevertheless, can be destroyed under certain geological scenarios. Eruption of mantle plumes underneath cratons reduce root viscosity thus make them more prone deformation by convection. It has been proposed that Indian craton could have thinned due eruption Réunion plume it at ca. 65 Ma. In this study, we constructed spherical time-dependent forward convection models investigate whether reduced thickness. Along with testing effect different strengths its surrounding asthenosphere, examined temperature-dependent on deformation. Our results show plume-induced thermomechanical erosion thickness as much ~130 km in presence viscosity. We also find material lubricated lithosphere-asthenosphere boundary region beneath plate. This a potential reason for acceleration plate since

Recurrent seismicity in Rajasthan State in the tectonically stable NW Indian Craton

Indian peninsular region comprises several Archean cratonic blocks (Dharwar, Bastar, Singhbhum, Aravalli – Bundelkhand), bordered by Proterozoic mobile belts. Therefore, this region is considered as tectonically stable and designated as the least vulnerable region to earthquake hazard except the still active Central Indian Tectonic Zone (CITZ). The latter is a major suture between southern and ...

Could the South Have Won the War?

Although the Confederate surrenders in April 1865 marked the end of major hostilities of the American Civil War, disputes of interpretation continue to characterise the study of the conduct and outcomes of the War. Whilst this may be simply a feature of all historiography, the extent of these interpretive disputes may well be a direct consequence of the nature of the primary sources that have s...

The 'What Could Have Been' Photo

The goal of the project is to create new scenarios in a supplied photo by replacing some of its elements with elements from other photos. This could be used to repair imperfectly taken photos (photo with shadow due to camera lens that was partially covered by finger), to remove elements that spoil the imagery of a picture (a garbage can in the middle of a rose garden), or to create an image wit...
